Why is the degree marker HEN (很) obligatory in "他很高"?

Hěn (很) is the default evaluative marker in signalling evaluation. It is obligatory when using in evaluative predication. So, ‘他很高’ is grammatical and ‘*他高’ is ungrammatical.
