Time adverbs, adverbs that denote time such as 今天, may come before or after the topic/subject.

  1. 今天我不舒服。(Today I don’t feel well.)
  2. 我今天不舒服。(Today I don’t feel well.) (Li & Thompson, 1989, p. 321)

Sentence 1 and 2 are both acceptable. One cannot say, however, the following:

  1. *我不舒服今天。

Sentence 3 is only be acceptable when there is a phonetic pause before 今天, i. e.

  1. 我不舒服,今天。(I don’t feel well, today.)
