1. When evaluating a person, an item or a matter, the evaluative marker is necessary in a Chinese sentence.

2. The morpheme 很(hěn) is the default Degree marker typically used when no other overt marker of evaluation is available. (Liu, 2017)

3. Overt Marker of evaluation:

He is very smart——她(tā)非(fēi)常(cháng)聪(cōng)明(míng)

He is sad to death——他(tā)难(nán)过(guò)死(sǐ)了(le)017)

4. He is tall——他(tā)很(hěn)高(gāo)

She is pretty——她(tā)很(hěn)美(měi)
