conjunctions: 以免yǐ miǎn,免得miǎn de

These conjunctions are usually placed before the verb in the second clause:

请你放轻脚步,以免吵醒大家。

Qǐng nǐ fàng qīng jiǎo bù,yǐ miǎn chǎo xǐng dà jiā。

Please walk quietly to avoid waking everybody up.

穿上你的外套,免得着凉。

Chuān shàng nǐ de wài tào,miǎn de zhe liáng。

Put on your coat to avoid catching cold/so that you won’t catch cold.
