conjunctions followed by conjunctives: 如果rú guǒ/要是yào shì…就jiù…,假使jiǎ shǐ/假如jiǎ rú/假若jiǎ ruò…就jiù…
如果/要是再不下雨,水库里的水就会干了。
Rú guǒ /yào shì zài bú xià yǔ ,shuǐ kù lǐ de shuǐ jiù huì gàn le 。
If it doesn’t rain any more the reservoir will dry up.
假使/假如/假若他五分钟内不来,我们就不等了。
Jiǎ shǐ /jiǎ rú /jiǎ ruò tā wǔ fèn zhōng nèi bú lái ,wǒ men jiù bú děng le 。
If he doesn’t turn up in five minutes, we won’t wait any longer.
Note that it is possible to form an ‘if . . . then . . .’ sentence without using a conjunction in the first clause, particularly in colloquial speech:
明天下雪,我们就不去爬山了。
Míng tiān xià xuě,wǒ men jiù bú qù pá shān le。
If it snows tomorrow, we won’t go hill-walking/climbing.
