If the modal verbs 能 néng, 会 huì or 该gāi are used in a comparison or similarity construction, X 比bǐ Y or X 跟gēn Y 一样yī yàng precedes the modal verb if the focus is on the modal verb itself.

Tā bǐ wǒ néng shuō huà 。

He is more eloquent than I am.

Nǐ gēn wǒ yī yàng huì yóu xì 。

You know how to swim as well as I do.

Nǐ gāi bǐ wǒ lái dé zǎo (yī )xiē 。

Nǐ gāi lái dé bǐ wǒ zǎo (yī )xiē 。

You should have come in a little earlier than I did.

Tā dé gēn dà jiā yī yàng pái duì 。

He should queue up like the others/the rest of us.

Tā huì chuān dé bǐ dà jiā dōu shí máo (yī )xiē 。

Tā huì bǐ dà jiā dōu chuān dé shí máo (yī )xiē 。

She will probably dress up a little more fashionably than the others/the rest of us.
