In some verb phrases,  dǎ (打)  can signal a resultative or function as causative light verb, e.g., 打倒 (hit-fall down), 打 could signal a result meaning of either "beat and fall down" or just "fall down" , the result state "fall down" can be done through various actions.

EX: 拳擊手打倒了對手

Quanjishou dadao le duishou

The boxer beat down his opponent.

Another example is that dǎ (打) function explicitly as a causative light verb.

他打碎了杯子

Ta dasui le beizi

He broke the cup.
