名詞的單複數如何決定:為何「怕高」會說 afraid of heights 而不是 afraid of height?

I am afraid of height,這不是英文常見的用法,因為height 做為抽象名詞時是指中性的度量概念,如:the height of the stove,不見得一定指很高的地方。

I am afraid of heights/snakes/small spaces.
I am afraid of death/commitment/responsibility.
